MusicIDB 2.1 – Release Notes

If you’ve been clicking around on MusicIDB.com, you’ve certainly seen some of what we’ve been doing, but this past weekend’s launch is as big as 2.0, because it fixes a number of bugs and issues.

In fact, we didn’t even send an email out after it officially went live, because we realized there some things that really needed more attention. So, now that the work is really done – here’s why MusicIDB 2.1 is worth its weight.

Features for All

  • Fully Responsive for Mobile Devices, Tablets.
  • Any slow loading pages can now load very quickly – this was solved by “ajax” loading events on Artist Pages, Company Pages, and Venue Pages.
  • Streamlined Logged In User UI so you can more easily work within your own account
  • Event Pages can be Claimed and Managed by Multiple Users
  • Website and Facebook Integrations (Embeddable Widgets) Improved Design
  • Add Event Popup and Add Gig Opportunity Popup Simplified with Tabbed Navigation for Tags, Details and Gig Agreements
  • Tons of cleaned up details on the Interface

The following is notes from the initial MusicIDB (2.0) Release (January 2016)

MusicIDB.com is now built as a calendar, messaging and contracting platform at its core.

Features for Bookers, Artists and Everyone Else

  • Radius Search so you can pull up Indie Bands within 30 miles of Boston for example, available on Artist List, Gig List, Event List and Venue List
  • User Location Filtering so if you are not logged in, you will be served items within 100 miles of your IP’s known location on all list pages (Artists, Gig Opps, Shows & Venues).
  • National Platform – Thanks to this location filtering, MusicIDB.com will work for you, where-ever you are in the United States.
  • Major Update to Aesthetic of Site, focusing on subtle improvements without drastic changes in the basic site functionality existing users are familiar with
  • Mobile Functionality – Calendar Management, Adding Shows, browsing the Artist List, Event List, Venue List and Opportunity list all set up properly for use on a mobile device
  • More Bang for the Buck – Tightened up Events and Artists on list pages to are shorter and more are visible at once
  • New Account Remote Panel – This left side panel allows instant access to each of your pages, calendars, and mailboxes
  • Infinite Scrolling on all list screens instead of “next page” (so just scroll down to see more)
  • Scalable – Site has been moved to a scale-able server stack to allow for unrestricted growth

Features for Bookers (Promoters and Venue Managers)

  • Dashboard Calendar to manage your events!  Akin to Google Calendar, this calendar is very powerful to allow add and editing shows without leaving the page.  On any date, instantly turn booking on and off as needed, and tag or remove bands on each date as well.  (Previously you could not modify artists of any event without loading the event page itself.)
  • Dashboard Mailbox to view all messages, which is sortable, searchable and provides a great work-flow experience. Messaging that was built for live music.
  • Quick-Add Artists – Adding Events allows tagging new or exists artists (without separately adding artists to the database).
  • Genie Draw Calculator – Now fully automatic – this feature displays estimated draw for inquiring artists based on distance of artist from venue and fan metrics
  • Better Screen Layout – Tagging artists and venues appear in dropdown instead of slide-out on right side, which resolves issues for some users with narrow screens and older browsers
  • Premium-Feature – Sort Artists by Facebook Like Count, temporarily exposed for user-testing.   (Show “Rock artists near Boston in order by Facebook like count” for example).  Temporarily, this feature is exposed publically to all users.

 Features for Artists

  • Dashboard Calendar to manage your events!  Expect functionality similar to Google Calendar except you can tag any venue to make your show appear on the venues page if they haven’t added it already
  • Dashboard Mailbox to view all messages, which is sortable, searchable and provides a great work-flow experience. Messaging that was built for live music.
  • Interested Checkbox to Submit to Gigs  – this means you can apply to gig opportunities without writing a message, just to share with a booker that you have interest in their event, so they can start the conversation.  Artists are still able to submit a message the same way as before if they prefer.  Since you may represent multiple artists, you will have to choose a default artist account first time you note that you are interested, and there is a 2-click process to confirm the artist selection on each gig when you represent multiple artists.
  • Not Interested / Close Button for gigs that are not of interest on Gig List to prevent seeing events you are not interested in when returning to the Gig Opportunities list page.
  • Tag Notifications – if your claimed artist listing is tagged on an event, you will receive an email notifying you that your event is being promoted on  MusicIDB.com

MusicIDB 1.2.1 Release Notes

MusicIDB 1.2.1 is better than 1.2!  Most notable improvements are in bold.

Features for Promoters

  • Manage Gig Screen
    • Tag Booked Artists button implemented so you can quickly add artists to a gig when they are booked offline, doesn’t matter if they’re claimed or not
    • Easy distinction between bands that are claimed or not with the MusicIDB claimed (same as seen on Artist List)
    • Message button on “tagged” or requested and booked artists who are not claimed is now hidden as they cannot be messaged
    • New Messages all working with Red Flag raised on mailbox instead of non-clickable red mail item
  • Published & Unpublished Events Merged into “[My] Upcoming Events”
  • Mega-revamped Upcoming Events Screen featuring
    • Icon / Visual Cue for Events that are Published (Megaphone)
    • Big Date Corner Box for Quick-scanning to find a Particular Event
    • Any Venues you “claim” or “have booked a gig at” are available in the Venues Dropdown at the top of this page (ie – I book the entire calendar for 2 venues, and I can easily toggle between them now)
    • Ability to see all Artists on each show from this screen in a nice vertical artist list (screenshot)
    • If someone creates an event at a venue you claim, this event will now appear in your upcoming events (you will not be able to manage, but claiming access to manage an event someone else created will be coming soon)
  • Validation makes sure you don’t add a “ symbol to agreements which was breaking them
  • Messages to Promoters from Artists now show Artist Name
  • Fixed an issue where when you read a new message from the Manage Gig screen the Red Alert in the left sidebar would not go away until you read from the Upcoming Events screen using the mailbox dropdown under that event.

 Features for Artists

  • Artist Mailbox Working MUCH better with Alert Notifications
    • Previously we realized a bug which meant you would only see the red notification inside MusicIDB if you had happened to have created the artist listing you claimed.   If you didn’t, you were not seeing the notifications of new messages to you.  Thus you would have been confused about which event had a new message, when there were multiple events
    • For clarity this currently works in such a way that if 2 individuals claim the same artist listing, both receive the email with each message from any promoter, but the first member who logs in and reads the message will “turn off” the new message that the other would have seen.   Fortunately you’ll still know what member from what band had sent the message, regarding what date and when based on the email.  You’ll also know if you don’t see any new messages when you log into MusicIDB – that another representative has read all incoming new messages, and ideally responded accordingly.
    • Clicking “View Agreement” launches “inquire” window when you’re logged in so you don’t have to click cancel and then inquire.

Features for All

  • Adding Artists, Events and Venues is now faster and easier
  • Wizard Steps let you know where you are (step 1, step 2, step 3)
  • New Landing Page
  • Any registered users such as a fan account can now Add Events and Venues
  • Event Detail area cleaner on View Event
  • Add Gig modal getting “stuck” has been fixed
  • Fixed a validation issue preventing use of capital letters in URLs
  • Fixed a stack of similar validation issues preventing saving of what should be “fine” content and data
  • Cleaned up site with simpler backgrounds and fewer/smaller shadows which increased speed-performance of page loads across site

Visit MusicIDB.com to Experience 1.2.1

Known Issues

All Users

  • Need “loading” graphic to clarify when a list page is still loading so users do not attempt to use filters until the page is ready.  At this time you’ll know when it’s done because the filter-tabs “snap” into place and line up with the rows on the right
  • Date-Picker during Event/Gig Creation does not work correctly in some browsers – The Google Chrome browser will offer the correct User Experience of this feature, otherwise you can type in the date using the correct formatting (like this “7/25/2014”) if you experience this bug.
  • Clicking “Check All” for any Genre Section does not show accurate count of results in Refresh Button
  • Images should never be “stretched to fit” – we never intended that to occur but there are still a few places we need to make corrections to this improper formatting
  • There is no control to delete or hide content yet, but this in progress
  • Events can only be managed by 1 person, they should be able to have multiple administrators like artists and venues

Artists

  • No way to archive events that are not going to happen (cancelled show, denied inquiry, etc) from Gig Mailbox

Event Managers

  • In the future it will be possible to batch-update your MusicIDB calendar, to say for example every friday and saturday you want to offer the same general agreement and allow inquiries.
  • Event Records not available for Events Created as “Events”, only for Events created as “Gigs”. If this is not clear to you, Gigs are for Booking Artists, and when a Gig is Published it becomes an Event which are what appear in the Event List for Fans to browse.
  • There is no way to change an Event into a Gig to “do booking”. You will need to create a Gig instead, and contact [email protected] to delete the original event.
  • It is not possible to have 2 Events happening at different times at the same venue yet.  Venues with more than 1 floor currently need to have each floor listed as a venue in order to specify which “room” it’s in.   Therefore, venues with multiple rooms will not have 1 page that shows all events happening at that venue.
  • It is not possible to have a private venue, we are adding a control for “unlisted” venues soon.  Such as a home address or a “one-time only” venue such as a field.

  • Artist List slow load time improved
  • Social Links Improved for Artists and Venues

  • Share Button on Artists, Venues, Events & Gigs to post a listing on social networks or send to email addresses

  • Rebuilt “Features” walk-through pages with more screenshots for Artists, Event Organizers, and Fans

  • Lots of general fixes and improvements to images, pages and pop-ups
  • Repair to prevent “stuck modal” issue when saving new content

Event Managers

  • Emails sent regarding new messages on MusicIDB now show full message, full name of who sent it, in addition to the date of event and venue

  • An event’s mail dropdown link is a mailbox instead of a black triangle – red flag is up on mailbox when there is a new message
  • Fixed “Book” button’s Date Bank to hide past events when inviting an artist to play a show

Artists

  • Issue with cancelling an event that you have been invited to, control does not work correctly

You will need to create a Gig instead, and contact [email protected] to delete the event as it is not possible to have 2 events on the same date at the same venue in our system
  • It is not possible to have 2 Events happening at different times at the same venue yet.   We will fix this ASAP.
This means it is possible that odd venues may appear in the Venue List until this feature is available.
  • To tag artists to a gig in the past, for example if you wanted to track records of the last 3 months of events, or if you had a last minute artist join a bill and didn’t update the event listing before it passed, you would have to temporarily change the date to a future date, then “book” the artist, then fix the date.
