Show Recap: Superjerk, The Natural Disasters and Salem Wolves at Midway Cafe

Midway Cobwebs

The night of October 26th, I walked into the Midway Cafe from the pleasantly cool night, enjoying the familiar atmosphere of the bar combined with the fact that the place had been decked in Halloween decorations.  The walls were covered in cobwebs and the bar was littered with empty Angry Orchards.  Most would agree that the scariest decoration of all, however, was the “Out of Order” sign on the ATM.

I sat down at the bar and broke ground on my first beer of the night, excited to see the bands that were playing,  Superjerk, The Natural Disasters, and Salem Wolves.

Superjerk

Superjerk took the stage first, a three piece band from Worcester that has a great groove mixed with ambient harshness.  If you imagine what the White Stripes would sound like pushed through an Ibanez Tube Screamer, you have their sound.  They have a a great way of combining feedback with crunchy indie riffs.

The Natural Disasters

Next up was The Natural Disasters from Billerica.  These guys took a page from the riffs and groove of Jimi Hendrix and added crunch and anger to the mix.  The result is a serious throwback to old school rock and roll.

Salem Wolves

Finally Salem Wolves took the stage to cap the night.  This energetic trio defines what it means to be a garage rock group.  The riffs and energy conjure images of the Foo Fighters, while maintaining the style of a scrappy punk band.  One of the catchiest songs being a gritty riff called “The Bruiser.”
